It is the year 1800 AD. My name is Anthony Forsight and I have decided to return to my journal to put down a record of resent events.
It has been 62 years sense I met the European Prince. Against my will Prince Dracu turned me into a vampire. He had hoped to find in me a friend, someone to share in the hunt with.
He was wrong.
We’ve shared a sometime bitter sometime friendly rivalry for decades.
I’ve dedicated my death-life to ridding the world of my kind.
I haven’t been very successful.
I HAVE made enemies however.
But enough of this. I’ve already written much of that in prior journal entrees.
Today I’d like to discuss my beloved little ones.
Roland and Annabelle.
Maybe my decisions to “save” them was a mistake. Maybe not. Only the future will tell.
Not too long ago, in the year 1792, I was in a bad way.
I had just returned to Boston Massachusetts after many years abroad. I was desolate, hungry and very depressed. Prince Dracu had succeeded in stopping my last attempt to rid the Earth from vampires by causing me to loose the Amulet of Arrgoth down a very deep chasm. Then he tried to kill me but I had escaped.
It was my last, best hope so I fled to the port and stowed away on a ship bound for my homeland.
I have always sworn to never take a human life. I would NOT be like the one who cursed me to this death-life. I wish I could say I’ve kept that promise.
At any rate during the long journey I fed on rats blood. It did NOT fill me. I was starving. This is NOT an excuse for what I did although I’m not to sure I SHOULD search for excuses.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
As the crescent moon filled the sky I left the ship and touched my native American soil.
Oh the joy I felt!
The euphoria wasn’t long lasting however as I realized my hunger had grown a thousand fold.
There were two fishermen that night and this just gave me deep pains as I watched them from the dark. Their viens were old but contained a warm meal nonetheless. I started to approach them. It would be a simple thing, really. Even at my weakened state I could overpower them.
But I took hold of myself and turned away. I retreated into the shadows to find a dog or cat. Anything to satisfy this hunger.
I was already a block west when something tugged on my coat.
I turned with lightning fast reflexes to grab whatever it was but halted as I saw her.
She was very sick looking. She must’ve been six years old. I knew right away her sickness had all but killed her.
“Little one. Where did you come from?”
“Please sir. You have to help them.” Her little raspy voice pleaded.
She did something I am unaccustomed to. She held on to my little finger and pulled at me. So I followed.
It wasn’t very far.
In a secluded alley I saw them.
Her parents were already dead, apparently they’ve been so for days. Her older brother, who was ten years of age, was dieing right in front of me.
“Can you help them? I don’t want them to die. Mommy and daddy have been quiet for a long time and now my big brother is getting cold, like them. Please save us.”
I honestly didn’t know what to do. Both children were deathly ill. The boy wouldn’t last the night and the girl would be dead before the next nightfall. I have always prided myself on keeping my humanity. Although there have been times in the past where I gave in to my vampirism, I’ve always tried to resist and I’ve always, ALWAYS felt compassion for the mortals. I was one and in my heart still was one. This has been a constant point of conflict between Dracu and myself.
If I bit the children three times just enough to infect them with my curse, then that would kill them and they would be reborn as vampires. They would live.
But to do so I would betray everything I’ve stood for.
“Please sir. Please. Don’t let them die.”
“There… is a way to save you and your brother little one. What is your name?”
“Annabelle, but what about mommy? What about daddy?”
I kneeled down to look into her sweet face. The tears were flowing freely down her cheeks. “I’m sorry Annabelle but it’s too late for them. They’ve gone to Heaven.”
She started to cry even more so. I hugged her close. So close I could hear the rich blood flowing through her veins. I tried not to think of it. “There there. It’ll be ok. What is your brother’s name Annabelle?”
“His..sniff..sniff..his name is Roland.” Then in a very quiet voice she asked, “Is he dead too?”
“No Annabelle he is yet alive but the sickness inside both of you is killing him.”
“And you can save him?”
“Yes, but you must understand something for me.”
“Yes?”
“To save you both I must bite you..” she gasps, her eyes grow wide. “I will be as gentle as possible. I must bite each of you three times. You will hurt, but shortly afterwards you will wake up, feeling very differently. You will no longer be able to stand sun light. But you’ll feel stronger then you’ve ever felt. There are other things you’ll be able to do that you’ve never been able to do before.”
“But we’ll live?”
“…..yet, you COULD call it life.”
“Alright. Do it.” and this little girl did the most bravest thing I have ever witnessed. She held out her left arm for me to bite.
Her blood smelled so inviting. I ignored it.
I bit her, very gently. Taking in only a couple drops of blood.
She gasped softly.
She was in pain but I knew I had to keep going. I bit her a second then third time. She passed out of course, they always do. As I laid her body on the ground I saw the color leave her face. I then turned to her brother. He was in a coma. I would prefer to ask him but I knew that wasn’t possible. I couldn’t just let him die either. So I did the same to him. As each bite took him he never woke up.
I then waited.
